Chorus

choir

In Chorus students learn to sing age-appropriate songs from memory and develop their vocal skills in a group setting, as well as individually. Students learn standard vocal techniques (posture, breathing, support, chest, mixed and head voice, vowel pronunciations). They also learn how to read, write, and perform simple patterns of pitch using solf├Ęge or other age-appropriate symbols for music. Students learn how to listen and practice with the goal of making a beautiful sound.

To engage students, we choose and arrange fun music, including contemporary hits and movie music as well as traditional repertoire (rounds, partner songs, etc). Students rehearse one hour per week and have performance opportunities throughout the school year. At the end of the year, students perform together in a Spring Concert Finale. During the summer, we offer a JAM BAND in order to give students the opportunity to also learn how to improvise and compose music.
